To all of our patients,
In light of the COVID-19 situation, we wanted to let you know what we are doing.
1- Our clinics are open but we are not providing services as usual. We are taking steps to minimize potential exposure to the virus to as many people as possible, while freeing up staff time to assist patients who require care that is more urgent.
2- We are shifting many of our appointments to virtual appointments. You may be speaking with your physician or another member of our clinical team by phone or videoconference instead of coming to the clinic. When you make your appointment, our clerks will provide you with clear instructions as to how this will work.
3- We are cancelling or deferring some non-essential appointments (e.g. routine physicals, wart treatments, B12 shots, etc) and we ask for your patience until we re-schedule those appointments.
4- For appointments requiring patients to come into the clinics, we may be offering morning appointments from 9:00am-11:00am for our elderly patients, our infant patients and those patients that may be more susceptible to the virus. We have increased our cleaning and sanitization practices at all of our clinics. If you are coming to the clinic for an appointment, please ensure that you use the hand sanitizers located at the clinic entrance.
5- In order to help reduce the potential spread of the virus, we are asking for your help. If you have a new fever, cough or shortness of breath AND have travelled outside of Canada or have had a known contact with COVID-19 case, DO NOT COME TO THE CLINIC. You have three phone options for medical advice or screening: call our City of Lakes Family Health Team clinics; call Telehealth Ontario at 1-866-797-0000; or call Public Health Sudbury & Districts at (705) 522-9200.
6- Health Sciences North has opened a COVID Assessment Centre. This is not a walk-in clinic. Do not go to the clinic unless you have made an appointment with them. You can call the Assessment Centre at (705) 671-7373. If you are not sure, please call our clinic and we will ask you a series of screening questions over the phone to determine if you are eligible to go to the Assessment Centre.
Finally, COVID-19 should be taken seriously, particularly by people who are at greater risk. It is important that all of us educate ourselves using reliable sources. Please follow us on Facebook or check back to our website for regular updates and links to credible sources of information.
All of us will face uncertainty and new challenges over the coming weeks. Be kind to each other. Together, we will get through it!
David Courtemanche, Executive Director
