On January 21st, local MPP Glen Thibeault hosted a Roundtable meeting with the Ontario Minister of Health, Eric Hoskins, in Sudbury.
The City of Lakes FHT, alongside other local healthcare agency representatives, participated in a lengthy discussion with the Minister regarding local healthcare issues and priorities.
The Roundtable engaged many local healthcare leaders representing institutions and agencies such as Health Sciences North, the Northern School for Medicine, the CCAC, and the Sudbury & District Health Unit.
Executive Director, Dave Courtemanche, used the opportunity to advocate for Ministry approval of the proposed Chelmsford clinic. Other participants echoed their support for the proposal.
In February, Greater Sudbury City Council passed a unanimous resolution to support the Chelmsford proposal. The City is providing the space in a municipally-owned building, providing a long-term rent-free lease and contributing 50% of the capital costs for renovations.
Once completed, the clinic will include a primary care team of family physicians and interdisciplinary healthcare professionals provided primary care services to approximately 5,000 patient.
Ministry approval is required to proceed with the clinic.
